Objective

The section is mandated to protect and preserve ground water in the Maldives and to ensure safe and adequate drinking water is available to all Maldivian citizens. The section implements rules and regulations and sets rules for water service providers and waste water management. This is achieved through monitoring, evaluation and regulation of water services in the Maldives. The section is also mandated to monitor and carryout research on physical oceanography in the Maldives. The section manages and protects s water quality through policies, plans and regulations, issuing of license and by regulating drinking water production and use in the Maldives.

The section is responsible for

•    Granting license to water and sewerage service providers and ensuring compliance and enforcement policies are adhered to by licensees
•    Making rules and regulations for effective sewerage management and ensuring compliance
•    Making rules and regulations for taking fees, licensing to take fees from water service providers and sewerage water disposal service providers for business purposes and investigating queries from service providers and consumers to ensure the protection of interests of both parties.
•    Organizing, developing and managing matters related to physical oceanography in the Maldives.
