The Hithadhoo Protected Area is located on the northern end of the island, which is locally known as Eidhigali Kulhi and Koattey. The area encompasses the top section of the island and extends 2km offshore to capture all the coral reefs found around the area. includes the Koattey area,the large freshwater pond, mangrove area, large area of islands vegetation and very shallow semi-enclosed lagoon area of fine silt on top of the sand.
