EPA has undertaken EIA inspection of the reclamation project undertaken in Hulhule’ as part of the Ibrahim Nasir International airport development project undertaken by GMR group.

The reclamation is ongoing in the eastern side however the reclamation for the extension of the runway has not yet commenced. Bund walls and silt screens were in use to prevent sedimentation. Furthermore Coastal protection works are on the onset of commencing. It was informed that the reclamation of the area required for the new terminal will be completed by the end of the month and reclamation of the entire eastern end will be completed by end of June. It is estimated that the entire reclamation project will be completed by November.
